Toronto to Miami © Joe Chisholm, Jesse Chisholm, 2005

Verse 1

As sleepy night gives way to early light

That’s the heartbreak hill of marathon driving

Highway lines swerve, focus blurs

As all five senses are colliding

Exhaustion drowns; I roll the window down

Ooh the sweet slap of fresh air

I’ve crossed 5 state lines and it dawns on me, “Hey man –

There’s no more snow out there”

Chorus

My baby wouldn’t have me – drove from Toronto to Miami

Because nothing better came to mind

Was it something that I said, or something that she read

That has me cruising on down the line

Verse 2

From highway hypnosis to South Beach psychosis

I squint into the mid day sun

“24 hours-what a feat,”I say to your empty seat

And man, don’t I feel dumb

I mutter my mantra, “I’ll be better of with outcha’.”

but the idea just won’t adhere

As the waitress sets down espresso #3, she asks,

“So what brings you here?”

I tell her…

Chorus

Verse 3

What I have learned is… No matter how fast or how far

North, South, East, West - where ever I look – there you are

It’s time to swallow my pride, pick up the phone… and accept that there’s no choice Stubbornness is dissipating with every ring I’m anticipating,  then I hear your sweet voice

I say…

Baby if you’ll have me – I’ll drive Toronto from Miami

Because you’re the only one that comes to mind

Was it something I said, or something that you read

That has me cruising on down the line

Chorus
