Band History
Jesse Chisholm-Beatson
was encouraged to take piano lessons by his mom. He later
got a drum kit from his parents and spent some time taking
lessons. About the age of 14, Jesse started to take interest
in his dad's guitar and asked if he could take lessons and
soon did.
For Joe, Jesse's
dad, it had been 14 years (what a coincidence) since he had
treated guitar as anything more than a hobby. Joe and Pam
(Jesse's mom) had played in a band with some friends in the
'80's. Joe had continued to play gigs with cover bands.
Jesse's new found interest spurred Joe on to play some more.
Within a few months both were attending Songwriters
Association of Canada seminars and workshops and started
submitting original works to SAC's "Date with a Demo"
evenings. Joe and Jesse's first father/son collaboration was
"Chronic Malcontent" which was entered into a national
contest sponsored in part by Canadian Musician magazine and
Standard Broadcasting. It was recorded on a four track Korg
cassette recorder.
Over the years,
Joe still maintained friendships with friends in the music
business but as a financial planner, he was talking to them
more about money and risk management than the craft of song
writing. Things are changing as Joe has dusted off his guitar
player, songwriter hat. It still fits pretty well. It has
been a lot of fun to plug back into the music scene.
With a little
help and encouragement Jesse and Joe made a commitment to
doing something substantial with their growing repertoire
of music. After cataloging their first 20 songs that could
be called "keepers" it was time to put a band together.
With the addition of Tim Cassidy and Andre Skinner, The Chronicles
were formed.
